Our History

Established Over 32 Years Ago

The seeds of the Gagetown and Area Chamber of Commerce were sown on November 13, 1991 when the businesses then existing in Gagetown gathered at the Steamers Stop Inn.

The self described informal “Gagetown Merchants” met again on January 22, 1992 - in the Minutes of that meeting it notes: “The evening was very interesting. The spirit of cooperation was lively and congenial.”

Objectives were identified with a purpose of “developing the intrinsic assets of the Village of Gagetown to enhance its name, attractiveness and its quality as a destination for the travelling public and to the tourist establishments, enhance the village economy and provide employment, income and a reason for its citizens to stay, or return to the village rather than leaving to find employment elsewhere”.

The meeting offered an opportunity to discuss the successes, problems and potential plans for the future of the Village; the “ways and means to promote our Village and coordinate efforts to ensure better understanding among local businesses”, to be exact.

One of the first planning points was to establish an association of Village Business People to promote and develop tourism and the economy of the village.

This plan was enthusiastically adopted and by Saturday, August 1, 1992, the newly formed Gagetown and Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored it’s first event - COME HOME TO GAGETOWN - Celebrate New Brunswick Day.

The Chamber has continued for the last 32 years, waxing and waning as the area businesses have also come and gone. We remain committed to keep working to support our business community to make it thrive.
